Testing Colour Vision

Inherited congenital colour vision defects are relatively common and symmetrical in both eyes, for example approximately 8% of males are red – green colour blind. Conversely acquired colour loss may only affect one eye or, if bilateral, would usually be asymmetrical eg. a reduced perception of red can occur early in diseases of the optic nerve eg. optic neuritis, and chiasm eg. pituitary tumour.
